Dutch Masters Shoot Part I

If you know me, you know I love anything period piece.

This shoot is inspired by my visit to the MET to see a Dutch Masters art exhibit. I love a good still life. But not only did I find those at the exhibit, but the portraits with the ruffled collars, the moodiness of the paintings, and the jewel tones really spoke to me.

Once home to Saratoga, my creative juices were flowing. Girl with a Pearl Earring vibes danced in my head. I put together a mood-board and started reaching out to all the talent we have locally (see the end of the blog for more about the the team) around Saratoga Springs and it all fell into place.

I am so proud of this shoot. I’d love to hear what you think and if you feel the Dutch Masters vibe!

Keep and eye out for the second part of this shoot….

Venue - The Surrey Williamson Inn - this is such a gem of a venue, that I have been eyeing for sometime . It’s owned by Skidmore College and right across from their campus on North Broadway - the perfect Saratoga location. They have amazing gardens and the building is so charming. I knew the wood paneling would be the perfect backdrop for this shoot.

Dress/Veil - Something Bleu Bridal - I was like a kid in a candy shop going into their boutique. The selection of dresses is simply amazing. Luckily, Kathryn walked me through the options she saw a fit and we selected 2 gowns. This blog shows the first look, a feminine Wtoo strapless gown and pearl accessorized veil from Twigs and Honey . The pearl theme was a big part of my vision and I was so happy to run with it. Shoes Bella Belle Shoes

Florals - Surroundings Floral Studio - looking for a floral genius? Look no further than On. He was so amazing. I pitched the idea to him and he ran with it. 2 amazing bouquets, mantle pieces, sweetheart table design…and the show stopper…was the floral collar he made. We spoke about the ruffled collars in the paintings and and playing with the texture of the flowers to mimic fabric. He knocked it out of the park.

Hair and Makeup - True Beauty Company - Lauren is the sweetest person to work with. That is why I can recommend her to all my brides. Not only is she a complete pleasure to work with, she is amazing at what she does. She took the time to chat with me about the feel of the shot and came up with the perfect makeup for the model. Angela, of True Beauty Co. was responsible for the stunning updo. I loved everything about the hair and how it sat in the nape of her neck.

Cake - The Gingersnap Cake Shop - Sandy is a true cake artist! She asked me for pictures of the dress to mimic the details, incorporated hand made flowers and pearls. The cake had a still-life feel to it. She made each flower by hand and I was so excited to collaborate on this shoot with her.

Jewelry - Silverado Saratoga - One thing I knew I wanted for sure were large pearl earrings. I fell in love with the large baroque pearl earrings by Margo Morrison. The engagement ring is a picture frame setting by Megan Thorne, which is so fitting for a shoot based around framed art.
